Every herd starts with one hammer. Every 1,000,000 points, or a chain of 7 merges, earns another (up to 3). Tap the hammer, then an animal to smash it. With a keyboard, H picks it up, Space smashes the lowest animal in the lane, and Esc puts it down. A hammer can also get you out of a full barn.
As the herd grows, whole families retire: when you first raise a Sow, the Poultry stop arriving and every egg, chick and hen in the barn leaves at once. Rabbits and Swine follow at the Prize Cow, Sheep and Goats at the Foal, Cattle at the Mammoth and Horses at the Unicorn. In a Hardcore herd nothing ever retires; it has its own Best Herds list.
